Why we built LDU

Legal shouldn't be the reason a good company slows down.

LDU started in a modest industrial office in Singapore, out of frustration with how traditional legal services treated growing companies: slow, expensive, and hard to work with, with the actual work delegated and communication running through a junior in between.

How we work

Traditional firms are built around the billable hour, which quietly rewards friction. LDU Asia is built around the outcome: AI handles the first draft and the busywork, a senior legal consultant owns the judgement, the sign-off and the risk, and you get senior work at a pace and price that used to be impossible. We stay small on purpose, so every mandate is run by a consultant you can name, on infrastructure we control, with nothing routed through a third-party server: real counsel, real accountability, none of the drag.

A firm born out of frustration
Daniel opens LDU Asia out of a modest industrial office in Singapore, on a stubborn thesis: senior legal work can be direct, fast and affordable at once, instead of routed through a firm's usual layers.

Web3 and regulatory practice takes shape
Daniel's in-house background across Binance and other digital asset teams turns into a dedicated regulatory and crypto compliance practice. Fintech and Web3 teams start calling before they talk to the regulator.

We ship the first version of the LDU app: request a contract, a compliance review or counsel in one place, and watch a lawyer sign off. Turnaround on standard work drops from weeks to days.

A capped monthly retainer puts a senior lawyer inside the company for a fraction of a full-time GC salary. Within a year it becomes our most requested engagement.

Singapore-born and New Zealand-raised, Daniel spent his in-house career inside Grab, IBM, Binance, Nomura, Citi and ByteDance, specialising in data privacy, commercial contracts, regulatory compliance and digital assets. He now leads legal and compliance at OTLRS alongside running LDU, and still signs off on the firm's hardest matters himself. Off the clock: a basketball court or a bass guitar.
